Maternal mental illness can be addressed: it is predictable, identifiable, treatable and in many cases, preventable.
Key PMHP outcomes
– Problems relating to primary support, social environment and lifestyle transition are most commonly reported by distressed women during pregnancy.
– 60% of pregnant women report ‘much improved’ or ‘complete resolution’ of these problems.
– Counselling is particularly helpful for women who report problems around the transition to motherhood.
