New book on global mental health includes chapter on the Perinatal Mental Health Project which forms part of the CGMH’s PRIME

One of the chapters in the book describes the Perinatal Mental Health Project (PMHP),a project which forms part of the CGMH’s Programme for Improving Mental health carE (PRIME). The aim of PMHP is to develop a model of mental health services for pregnant and postnatal women that is integrated into primary obstetric services in low-resource settings. The project provides integrated mental health care (screening, counselling and psychiatric services) for pregnant and postnatal women in four primary level maternity facilities around Cape Town, South Africa. The chapter describes the activities of the Perinatal Mental Health Project and reports on some of the lessons learnt from this project regarding
the integration of maternal mental health care within primary care settings.
